Every penny ROC raises is reinvested for public benefit. We channel our support through three pillars — bursaries & funding, research, and education & outreach — that together strengthen the professions who diagnose and treat cancer, and improve care for the patients who depend on them.

How we make a difference
Three pillars, one mission
ROC’s charitable work is organised around three complementary pillars. Each targets a different barrier to better cancer care — from the cost of professional development, to the funding gap in early-stage research, to the awareness and skills gaps in our wider communities.

Bursaries & Funding
Cost should never stand between a talented clinician and the training, conferences and opportunities that help them grow. Our bursaries remove that barrier — funding congress attendance, course fees and travel for those who need it most.
Who can apply: trainees, early-career professionals and students across radiology, oncology and radiography.
What’s available: UKIO Congress bursaries, travel awards and course-fee support.
When: applications open annually ahead of the congress.
Breakthroughs in imaging and cancer treatment start with well-supported research. We fund early-stage and pilot studies that struggle to find backing elsewhere — helping ideas become evidence, and evidence become better patient care.
Grants & support: seed funding, pilot grants and project awards.
Areas of focus: imaging innovation, radiotherapy, AI & diagnostics, patient outcomes.
Impact: findings shared with the professions at the UKIO Congress.
Knowledge should reach everyone who can use it. We invest in education programmes, community engagement and public awareness — sharing expertise across the professions and beyond, so more people understand and benefit from advances in imaging and cancer care.
Education: study days, webinars and learning resources for the professions.
Community engagement: partnerships that widen access and participation.
Public awareness: initiatives that demystify diagnosis and treatment.
Behind every grant and bursary is a person, a project or a community moving forward. Here are just a few examples of the impact ROC’s charitable activities help to create.
Bursary
A first congress, a lasting network
Placeholder story — how a bursary helped an early-career radiographer attend UKIO, present their work and build lifelong professional connections.
Research
From pilot grant to national study
Placeholder story — how ROC seed funding gave a research team the evidence they needed to secure a major national grant.
Outreach
Reaching underserved communities
Placeholder story — how an outreach programme raised awareness of early diagnosis and skills in communities that need it most.
